Southern Yacht Club
Here’s where the ill-fated cruise of the Bon Temps Roulez starts
The second-oldest yacht club in America, the Southern Yacht Club commands a promontory on Lake Pontchartrain at the far western end of New Orleans. Founded before the Civil War, it is the pre-eminent Club for boaters in the City, controlling its own harbor space with direct access to the Lake. Like most lake front properties, it was severely damaged in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina but has been completely rebuilt.
